Birth of the Blues - Home Paint Colors 2021

Posted: January 01, 2021 by Ginnie Burke Preston

In a previous post I talked about the trends in paint colors moving from greys to blue and several of the paint companies have now announced their “Colors of the Year”. When staging a home for sale this year it is helpful to know the colors trends so that, even if you don’t want to repaint entire rooms, you can use the colors in accessories to freshen your decorating.

Glidden: Aqua Fiesta

Glidden Paint has never announced a color and for their first they have chosen Aqua Fiesta PPG1147-4 a calming aquamarine that looks beautiful combined with the greys from past years. If you have changed from grey to more neutral colors Aqua Fiesta will make a beautiful pop used in small doses.

Benjamin Moore: Aegean Teal

Even if you aren’t able to travel to Greece this year you can get that soft and soothing feeling by using Benjamin Moore’s 2021 color of the year Aegean Teal 2136-40. The grey undertone of this blue works very well with greys and soft whites. Hannah Yeo, color marketing and development manager at Benjamin Moore, calls it "an intriguing blue-green that creates natural harmony and invites us to take a moment to reflect and reset." A calm and elegant color it is a wonderful choice for bedrooms and baths.

Farrow & Ball: Three new blues

Never heard of Farrow & Ball? This British paint companies is sold at two specialty paint stores – one in West Chester and one in Philadelphia. Why go to the trouble? Farrow & Ball paints are highly pigmented and super smooth. This year the company has announced not one but three new blues: Pitch BlueStiffkey Blue, and Ultra Marine Blue. Pitch blue is a gorgeous cobalt blue that is on the darker side without being harsh. It would pair beautifully with bright white or charcoal grey. Stiffkey blue is a gorgeous bold and dark navy that would be fabulous as an accent color but would be a bold choice for wall paint. Perhaps not the color to choose if you are getting ready to market your home for sale! Ultramarine blue, on the other hand, is a classic neutral blue made popular by Ralph Lauren. It’s a great choice for bedroom walls.

One way of getting rid of the staying-home blues is to freshen the paint colors in your home. Consider these blues when making your change!
